About Hook Knives

Howdy!  I'm Davy Hook, the maker of Hook Knives.  I have a small shop near the river, outside of Missoula Montana where I hand craft custom knives.  My skill as a craftsman began as a boy when my father introduced me to an art passed down from his grandfather in the Ozarks of deepest darkest Arkansas, the carving of self bows. The concept of finding the perfect tree and seeing it through from a log to a fine tuned bow and arrow suitable for hunting fascinated me.  And so, after months of work I held the first thing I had really crafted with my own hands: a short Chokecherry bow with one beautiful knot in the upper limb.  From the time I launched my first arrow with it I was hooked! To this day that bow sits in elk antlers above my bed.  I moved on to more exotic woods with which I made rings, boxes, pens, earrings and knick-nacks.
One day a friend and small business owner suggested I look in to making knives for money as an outlet for my skills as a wood worker, all I needed to do was learn the metal side of things.  This was no small task! I made my first knife at age 17 and it took me weeks to finish, knives were far more challenging than I had imagined.  That was 98 knives ago, at the time of this writing, and I continue to learn more and take on new challenges all the time.  I love working off the ideas of my customers, developing new techniques and my own characteristic look in the knives.  I'm an avid outdoorsman, spending most of my free time in our beautiful mountains or out on the water, and I still whittle out a self bow from local woods now and again, but knives have become my passion.  I continue striving for perfection in my products and look forward to working with you to make the knife you are looking for.

Cheers, Davy
